Another chance with Archer Daniels Midland

Yesterday i got my interesting interview with Archer Daniels Midland. A global company in agriculture processor from US. They want to expand cocoa unit business in Indonesia, they already have 1 processing plant in Jurong Singapore and 2-3 plant in others country outside asia pacific. what i get to know about them is their interest to increase production by making new plant in Cikarang Bekasi. The mission is they want to be a leading cocoa processor in the world (now they are still in the 2nd position) and cocoa is the 3rd largest source in  Indonesia, even though the bigger consumer chocolate or cocoa bean is not from my country but still i think cocoa would be a great commodity export for Indonesia. This must be a good relationship between Indonesia and neighbor country.

However, i have to admit that this chance is away from my dream.. this is about agriculture and my passion is about energy sector. Agriculture and Energy is so far different but you know when you chase a dream dont chase the subject but chase the inside of the subject (Success). So, i over thinking about what is agriculture, what’s the interesting story behind it, to build my imagination of success in it.

Remember in olden times,when there was lived by homo pithecantropus and his fellows.. they survived with only food, they lived nomaden to only seek food, so that civilization was first began from it. Food, feed has been the most vital needs for living things, it has been prevent us from starvation, malnutrition, even more improve our quality of life. And now, people lived with food more creative and innovative in how to change crops,cocoa, wheat into interesting product and still safe consumed by people. Food chain is becoming bigger organization nowadays because it’s a renewable and it’s never ending business.

oke that’s enough for being self defense. i just want to grab any chance that might pass on me. 😀 and be grateful for what it is.

anyhow, these questions may asked if you get interviewed by ADM:

1. Your agriculture background?

3. Do you know ADM’s core area?

4. Are you familiar with ADM value?

5. How did you get interest in agriculture?

9. because i was interviewed for project engineer position, so i was asked about PFD and PID..

10. general cocoa processing plant?

all these question are easily to get the answer if you just browsing the subject. i.e. HACCP, GMP, cocoa processing plant etc. happy prepared yourself!

Something has a long time happen to me and i want you to know, i wont let it happen to you..

When you feel time goes slow and really bad for you, it means God wants you to be more patients and grateful.

When you feel everybody arounds you disappoint you, that’s mean God wants you to have faith only to Him.

When you really want something huge,  just see that only He is the biggest one who had prepared all the best thing for you.

So pray for help only to Him do not to your friends or someone who nice to you,even he’s/she’s your brother/sister, or your father, even me..

Terbelit-belit oleh “Belit Assessment”

One week from my early morning phone interview with Baker Hughes, there was a surprising email to my yahoo inbox. That i was eligible to continue to the next level and asked to immediately finished a business english test or (Belit). they gave me 4 days to know what the test was and also to complete them all.

The tests was consist of:

1. Grammar test 16 quetions (15 mins)

2. Listening test 15 questions (15 mins)

3. Reading test 26 questions (25 mins)

4. Speaking test 3 parts (7 mins)

Quite for sure, i can complete this one but i have to prepare all the important things first like headphone, microphone, maybe i need a quite and personal room while the speaking test occured, also the fast internet access. Absolutely i need a heeelp from Aming to find me the “test place”.. So here we go, Snapy.. we think the best place for internet access that facilitate with office suite room. Quite expensive service though, i need to pay 7500 rupiah for the first hour and additional 5000 rupiah for the next hours, however the tools i need were Headphone (check), mic (check), fast network (check). Next, what we think important is the sound and audio are working properly or not.

From Globalenglish Website www.corp.globalenglish.com, we can begin the test by input the username and password that they gave you (the candidat) through your email address that had sent before.

i was worried so much that we have to prepare the sound, the audio whatsoever first before the test, however they are actually facilitate it inside the belit assessment. After login up the website, we are eligible to test the sound ( do we hear the sound clearly or not), microphone test (do the recording functioned or not) and the internet network is strong or not. it spent time longer than i predicted….$$$$.

After checking all, i finally begin the first test: grammar test.. the difficulty of this test was level 5 ( toefl test was harder than this…), followed by a second test was listening, well i only successly finished 3 question.. and for the next question i didnt hear anything, the audio was totally dead, so i didnt get what the pictures was describe, what the men/women talked about,and i.. began frustrated. I tried to reopen the website, rechecked the sound, the network nothing wrong except for the the sound still terribly dead unfunctioned. I thought maybe it’s because the PC’s ram so it run slow. So i move to another warnet (warung internet) but nothing change… humm maybe the software installed uncompletely (in the beginning of the test they need us to installed the software first) still i cant make it worked.

The next day, i tried again and this time i just guess the answer of the listening test hahaha… just want to skip this level and headed to reading test. The reading test was not so difficult (again), it was consist of reading from article, newspaper, and sort of vocabulary in the article. 1 article is for 2-3 questions. And the last one was speaking test.. this time i did it in my home using only my small notebook and earphone. Speaking test consist of 3 parts. first part was reading 1 paragraph (about 150 words) and they record my voice to hear my english accent, pronounciation etc. The second part was question and answer test (dialog). They gave me 1 question and i have to answer it. Again, i failed because website’s audio access problem.

Thats all, my uncomplete Belit Assessment. i only finished grammar and reading test, the rest they screwed me up with their audio problems!. With a bit anger, i write a massage to baker hughes, told her the problem and asked the solution and asked whether i had another test.

And i hope my chance with BHI is not end here…. what a ridiculous…

Gas Lift “What for?!”

Lesson No.2: “Keep walking, and you get near to your dream”

Yesterday i spent an experience time with Sclumberger expertist. We discussed about Nodal Analysis which is the technique of analysis to predict fluid production rate by getting its operating point using inflow performance curve and outflow performance curve. This analysis helps engineer not only to get the flow by these two performance curve interception but also to get maximum liquid rate (AOF). Max liquid rate can be achieved when the pressure bottom hole of well is near to zero or we call it atmospheric condition. In reality, getting pressure bottom hole into zero was absolutely impossible due to we have barrier in the tubing and surface equipment that create a back pressure to wellbore, so we need a high pressure bottomhole  to stabilize the pressure drop along the lines.  

Solutions comes up when we have a method to lift the oils up to the surface, that is artificial lift by gas lift. The one that widely used by oil& gas industries by injecting a capacity of high pressure gas to the oil well from the compressor station in the surface).

Mr.Arabian: so why we need gas lift in oil well??

interviewee: because we want to lighten up the column so maximum liquid can be achieved. (textbook mode on)

Mr. Arabian: but Why so??

(after a couple of minutes of silence awkward moment)

that was explained by Mr.Bernoulli we want to increase the velocity so that the liquid will keep flow upward.

Mr. Arabian: what Velocity?

hummm i had answered the wrong one that was not a velocity of liquid that increased but gas velocity (superficial gas velocity). After i over thinking at home, reopen production engineering fundamental book by Guo Ghalambor, i realized that gas lift can change the flow regime in the column from bubble flow into slug flow if we increase the superficial velocity of gas. However, what we had point out yesterday that by Bernoulli’s equation (thermodinamics law) when the gas lift is being injected through the string, the gravity will less because the gas always flows upward. If we back to the equation, gravity (g) to be less then dP will increase followed by increasing rate.

Equation of conservation energy:

dP = Elevation + kinetic energy (velocity) + friction in tubing

(Pwf -Pwh) = g/gc . H + 1/2 Density/gc. dV^2 +2fF. density. dV^2.L/D/gc.

Phone Interview with Baker Hughes

From Houston at 5 pm EST, 30 minutes long, telephone interview was run success last night, that was the time i’ve been waiting for. Thank God!

These are questions she asked me:

1. Why Baker? Why do you want to work for our company?

2. Name a goal you set and achieved it?

3. Favorite class and why?

 4. Who else outside O&G industry have you applied to?

5. Describe a time when you were working in a team of high spirit?

6. Describe a time when you encountered a problem and how did you solved it?

7. What is your plan in BHI for the first year?

8. List of training you have had in university or in previous workplace? and what the beneficial for u in the future.

I feel quite satisfy although she was not asked me about personality question like “Tell me about yourself ” or my favorite question ” Give me one word that summarizes you to be remembered”. other questions are:

1. What skills do you bring to this job?  

2. Tell me about time when you were frustrated at work and how did you handle it?

3. How did a previous manager motivate you?

4. if I were a team leader how can I manage my team to target the project objectives and also she ask by using facts n reason how can I recommend my self to other people?

5. They will be ask whether we can provide ourself all the documentation to work outside Malaysia without any sponsorship from them?

6. If u willing to relocate, list of the country that u can work outside Malaysia?

7. Explain a situation when you choose integrity over success

8. Explain a situation when you were introduced to a new culture and how did you overcome it.

9. When you set a goal, how do you reach it?

10. Important decision you made in life about?

11. What was the most difficult situation you have been put in?

12. Your technical skills?

13. Why Field engineering?

14. Tell me about yourself?

15. Give me one word that summarizes you so I’ll remember you.    

 and at the end she said she will contact me about 3-4 weeks later to know me that i pass the interview. I apply this position (Graduate Field Engineer) online, filled some of assessment and about 2 weeks later i was emailed to make an appointment for phone interview. She said that this position will be located to Indonesia area. and will have alot assessment further to get hired.

Overall, i found myself enjoy to this type interview (phone interview). During the interview, she read the questions and i read the answers that i have prepared before (hahaha). The important thing is express it with words because she cant see directly my face, she only need my opinion. 

Ha..still beyond my imagination, 5 pm in the afternoon at Houston, but in Indonesia is still dawn. I assume this is my first interesting interview that worth to be shared. However, i am not hoping a lot, the chance is still 50:50 but if i get the opportunity i would state that i am very lucky girl.

Stuck at a moment

LESSON no.1: “there’s no easy way for worthy thing”.

In the middle of confusion, i blame myself for having my ego up high.

well, saya memang manusia biasa yg hanya bisa berencana, berusaha dan teruss berusaha (diiringi doa) . Setelah mengalami bad news, pertama Ogrindo-ITB (Oil & Gas Recovery Research for Indonesia) sedang mengalami stuck financial (mungkin kurang dana dari sponsor) jadi lowongan asisten peneliti sementara ditunda. Saya langsung berfikir keras hmm mungkin harus pendekatan melalui dosen nya langsung.. and my head goes to Abah (board name: Sudjati Rachmat) secara beliau dosen pembimbing tesis dulu dan sangat baik sungguh beruntung saya dibimbing sampai akhir oleh Abah.. Bismillah minggu depan deh saya menghubungi beliau sekalian menghadiri acara wisuda ku :p

oke lah tampaknya menjadi asisten peneliti masih perlu perjuangan mencari dosen sekaligus mencari topik penelitiannya. Sementara yah saya masih mencoba apply2 perusahaan cbm seperti Dart Energy, Ephindo (Energi Pasir Hitam Indonesia) yang dipimpin oleh Pak Sammy ex Chevron, dan Pertamina. Untuk Pertamina aku coba lamar melalui SDM Pertamina Hulu, aku dapet info dari temen kuliah S2 ku Pak Mulyanto manager hulu pertamina langsung, kata beliau sih pertamina butuh seseorang yang mengerti tentang coalbed methane as Analyst CBM.. hmm yah iseng-iseng berhadiah deh ku taro lah lamaran ke gedung kwarnas (kwartir nasional) lt.17 hari senin kemarin (28 Maret 2011). Btw, eh memang berjodoh saya dengan gd.kwarnas ini, pertama berkunjung saat saya sdg temu janji dengan si Abah masalah approval tesis.. emang beliau itu banyak punya proyekan dengan Pertamina jadi yah sering lah beliau ke pertamina hulu. (Pray: Semoga saya jg berjodoh dgn Pertamina amiiiin… ).

Dart Energy, saya sgt berharap bs bekerja di perusahaan ini, with many reasons i.e karena DE adalah perusahaan CBM yang sudah established di Australia dan sekarang  sedang ongoing project bersama Pertamina dan Ephindo di Sangatta dan Tanjung Enim dengan DE menjadi operatorship nya, impian ku menjadi cbm res engineer mungkin akan berawal dan berkembang disini, apalagi main office (berada di belakangnya Kemang village) dekat sekali dari rumah BF ku jadi masalah akomodasi & transportasi kedepannya sgt mudah ;p. tapi sudah 1 bulan lamanya janji untuk berdiscuss dengan GM operation belum juga ditentukan.. hmm lagi-lagi saya harus bersabar menanti.. 😦 . Pray: semoga bulan ini ada kabar gembira..amiin…) .

Hello Earth!

New Age, i begin to write a blog that i determined to do in last year. hmm…asking: What things force me to do so? it’s not about just following my friends, a must have one in your life, but it’s more because what i want to share to everyone who is need. So, it’s about finding a genuine happiness. Yup, simply by writing i will find my happiness in life..

 This Age, 27, actually i’ll have it officially tomorrow, i have 3 huge dreams to become reality and i hope all will come true and all will be smoothly accomplished by the end of year (ameen).  Before, i explain one by one and how i am going to do to make it happen, basic questions always come across my mind : what is your passion in life?! since i don’t know yet until i resigned last year from my previous company to complete my master degree. are you walk on the right path?! are these you really want to in your life?! what things makes life are easier, happier, and precious for you?! ( i dont want to mention Perfect here because it’s almost impossible)  if you know all the answer then you ready to make a map of your life and ready to take all the challenges which might examine you over and over until the final of your dream. (sounds like a never ending dramaqueen). but we all realize that what we seek is a happy ending script right?!.

Maybe everybody has another beautiful dream not like mine, but i’m here to share my dream and how i pursue it until it comes real. First is Job or i like to call it interest. many people have a job but they dont have interest in it. Well, i prefer to have both, How?? many ways.. but i start with absorb everything and choose only one what i like and i think i can do it as my job. I remember one of amazing quotes: “It’s better to have one sharp knife than have 100 blunt knives”.

So, my interest is something that related with energy. what life would be without energy?! but energy source always devastated and that’s the challenge to keep always turn on no matter from where  it is. <okay from this point i’ll will continue to write it in another post.> So what kind of job related to my interest? i am thinking about being an assistant lecture / researcher (lecture often has a project and we help him to do a research), an engineer that work in energy resource company (energy companies hold big role in Indonesia: Oil & Gas Company, CBM Company, mining Company, Geothermal Company) or i can work with government in ESDM Department.  So i already have 3 options what i want to be: a researcher, an engineer in energy company or work with government in ESDM. believe me i am chasing all the three. Meanwhile, i am still sharping my skill, focusing in technical knowledge in reservoir.
